"A Pin of Safety, A Thread of Hope" Fashion as a Platform for Social Change CFDA Design Scholar Award for Innovative Approaches to DEI – 2025

This project transforms fashion into a tool for social impact by amplifying the voices of children and youth from vulnerable communities in Venezuela. “A Pin of Safety, A Thread of Hope” is a collection inspired by real drawings created by children from Fundación Flor de la Esperanza, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing educational and emotional support.

The collection celebrates their stories by transforming their personal memories into wearable art. Featuring screen-printed designs based on their original artwork, embroidery, and symbolic elements like the safety pin representing protection, unity, and care this project goes beyond aesthetics to foster inclusion, resilience, and empowerment.

Rooted in the belief that we are all capable of being artists, this initiative gives a platform to voices that are often left unheard, transforming creativity into a bridge for social impact. By connecting art, education, and design, “A Pin of Safety, A Thread of Hope” redefines the role of fashion as a powerful storyteller, celebrating the value of every story and inspiring change through community-driven design.

This groundbreaking project earned me recognition as one of the winners of the Fashion Scholarship Fund 2025, proudly representing my university, Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), and celebrating innovation and creativity at the intersection of fashion and technology.
