Designing Trompillo

A Scarf That Weaves Hope and Heritage

El Trompillo is one of the most vulnerable and impoverished neighborhoods in Barquisimeto, Venezuela, but it has also been a place of profound learning and transformation in my life.

Through Fundación Flor de la Esperanza, a non-profit organization, we have worked to support children, teenagers, and mothers by providing access to art, education, and food, empowering them to rise above the poverty crisis they face.

This scarf, inspired by the vibrant culture and rich traditions of my country and Latin America, was designed as a special gift for the celebrities attending the Latin American Fashion Summit 2023 as part of Raíces by LAFS.

Creativity and Resilience

The piece captures the essence of Latin America through bold colors and intricate patterns that celebrate the diversity, warmth, and joy of our region.

The design also reflects the impact of the art created by the children of Trompillo, who have inspired me with their creativity and resilience.

My country has been an endless source of inspiration: its heritage, landscapes, and, most importantly, its people, whose energy and joy embody its cultural richness.

Every detail in the design is a heartfelt tribute to our roots and to the stories of hope that emerge from places like Trompillo.

Beauty and Meaning

These photos were taken in Trompillo, a place that, despite its challenges, represents the strength, creativity, and determination to transform adversity into beauty and meaning.

Every corner of Trompillo tells a story of resilience, dreams, and the unwavering spirit of a community that continues to rise above hardships. Through art, culture, and self-expression, the people here redefine what it means to thrive, proving that beauty is not just found in material wealth but in the richness of human connection, heritage, and hope.

This project is a testament to the fact that true beauty lies in the ability to create something meaningful from struggle, turning the past into inspiration and the future into possibility.
